Can I upgrade from a 8800gt to a GTX 260?

I was considering upgrading to a GTX 260. Can my system handle it? Will the PSU have enough power?

I have the following system:
Case - Antec P180
MOBO - Asus P5n32-Sli SE
Cpu - Intel E6400
Memory- OCZ 2 GiG DDR2-800
Video - MSI 8800 GT
PSU - Antec 550w HeNeo
Monitor - LG L227WTG-PF Black 22" - 1680 x 1050
HD - 2 * WD 250 Gig
DVD- Sony Dru820a, Nec Nd-3550A, Lite On, LG Blue Ray
Input - Logitech G15 and G5

that system you have right there is probably pulling just over 200 watts full load
adding the gtx 260 would increase that by about 60 watts (30 watts if you get the 55nm version)
so i'd say yes as long as you got the connectors (probably comes with the molex to 6 pin needed)

Thanks for the answers fellows. Would you say that I would see a noticeable difference in performance upgrading from 8800gt to the gtx 260?

Also, which gtx 260 card do you recomend?

With AA it will make a huge difference. With no AA it's roughly 25% faster.

At 1680x1050 resolution I would wait. You probably don't have problems playing any game I'm thinking other than Crysis even than you can easily get away @ high settings. A GTX260 still can't do very high settings.

You should overclock your CPU if you haven't done it already and get more ram.

You should think about SLI. 2 8800gt could easily destroy GTX 280 let alone GTX260 at that resolution.

AZN is right, getting a brand new 8800GT will mean another 100 or less bucks, while the GTX 260s start at around the low to mid 200's and at 1680*1050, there won't be much difference.
If you had to get a GTX 260, I would get either Evga's or XFX's

I think you should get another 8800GT, too. I have 2 in SLI and they are pretty darn fast!🙂
