Can I test out Antec True Power Supply 430 WITHOUT anything connected??

thatsright

I just bought a Antec case with the included Antec True Power 430w PS. I want to plug it in, and connect the 3 case fans to see if there too loud; and also just to see if the PS will power up. But I plugged the fans into the PS, and plugged it into the wall, but nothing happened when i turned it on.

So is it even possible for this PS to turn on, if there is NO HARDWARE really in the case for it to power; i.e. no Motherboard, Video Card, HD, etc.??

You tell me.

Thanks

the ps is triggered on by the motherboard in the ATX standard. till you know how to simulate that, no it won't power up.

You can short a couple of pins on the mobo connector to make it start (don't remember which ones though). The simplest thing is to buy an ATX psu tester. Compusa sells them, Cyberguys online as well as others. They sell for between $12-14us. Hook one up, flip the switch on the psu, and it starts up. It will also verify the basic output of the psu.

Thanks for the 411 guys, but uhh... I think i'll just wait. I'm just a bit to anxious. I just really wanted to see how loud the included Antec 80mm case fans were that were included. There were two for the rear, and one on the side panel, that blows right to the CPU.

Well, I'll find out soon enough. But would anyone know about how loud those fans are?
