Can i test a ccfl inverter using a multimeter?

My mom dropped her laptop the other day and sent it to me. The screen comes on but there is no backlight, trying to determine if its the backlight itself or the inverter and since the inverter costs $40, I want to test the voltage of the current one to see if its even the problem.

Can I just remove the leads going to the backlight and use my multimeter to test if it still works?
