Just like the topic says, in Windows 2000 Professional, can I switch from ACPI Multiprocessor PC to ACPI Uniprocessor PC and not expect any problems?

Same then applies to the reverse, once I'm done being in ACPI Uniprocessor PC mode, can I switch back to ACPI Multiprocessor PC mode?

MCSE's this one is for you! hahah

BTW, has anyone else done this before? I can't find much of anything on the MS website about this issue.

Do you know how to do it? in device mangler, right click on computer click driver, then update driver, and choose either single or dual acpi computer, I have done this and had no problem, I think the problems start when you change from dual to single (or the other way around) AND change the power management type at the same time, like from acpi dual to apm single.

I read on the Windows site it is bad to change from ACPI to something that isn't ACPI enabled. It didn't say much else about it. So you've switch from Multi to Uni and then back to Multi??? And not had any issues?

Before doing anything too drastic, edit your c:\boot.ini

On the Win2K line add " /ONECPU" (without the quotes at the end). Try booting that and see if it suits your needs. I believe that's the flag I use at work. Might be /SINGLECPU tho, but try /ONECPU first.

ACPI change requires repair install. SMP change can be done in device manager.

There is a lot of information in the MS Knowledge Base on this subject. Where you really run into problems is to make a non ACPI into an ACPI. In the blink of an eye your machine becomes unbootable and unrepairable and you must reinstall.
