can i snip a fan and tape a connector together?

the title is off becasue i dont really know how to sum it up so heres the best i can do.

i have a 2-pin fan that i want to use but i cant find an adapter so im wondering if i can snip the connector and a 3 pin connector..

then use the 3-pin connector and tape teh tailed fan together using electrical tape

do you think that would work or is there a way or a tip on how to do it?

thx for reading and trying to help me out🙂

Sure can, as long as the voltage to the fan is the same you should be fine.
Just make sure you hook up the power from the motherboard connector
the right way to the fan. Red and Black should be power Blue or Yellow is
for RPM monitoring.

hey thanks alot!

also can i use a 4-pin connector instead of a 3-pin?

i dont really know because the size of the 4-pin is thicker than the 3

edit: gave speedtester a 10🙂

You could use heat shrink to cover the wires instead of using electrical tape. Heat shrink is available at most home centers.

Upon the application of a heat source (heat gun) the tubing will shrink and grasp tightly to the object over which it has been placed, such as a wire.

1. Cut heatshrink to fit over the exposed wire.

2. Before you twist or solder the two wires together you should slide the heatshrink onto one of the wires.

3. Solder or twist your wires together.

4. Slide heatshrink over the entire exposed area and heat it up with a heat source. Heat can come from lighter, blowdryer on high but preferably a heat gun.

Heat shrink available online here.

Good luck.
