I was thinking of buying it. I know my video card is shit... but I just want it to be good and playable.

I have:
AMD Athlon 64 2800+
1 Gig of Ram
Geforce 4 MX440

I ran half-life 2 perfectly at 1280x1024 everything maxed out (no as or af). I know my card is only capable of directx7 so I wont get all the eye candy but I just want it to run smoothly.

Is this possible? How much more taxing is it on a system then HL2?

really?! Whoa... I dunno how my video card does it. Its so old and bad :)

I assume that WOW is less taxing on a system then HL2?

my major confusion is, since the game is running as dx7, there isnt as much going on, is this enough to justify my ability to run hl2 well? will this translate to wow?

aka would i be able to run it as well as say a GF 6600 in dx9 since its only running in dx7?

I can't justify it right now. I'm planning on getting a nice gaming notebook if get the job I applied for so there's no sense in doing that really.

If anything I would add another gig of RAM to avoid the MMO slowdown.

Well for alot of reasons MMORPG's seem very dependant upon lots of RAM. Even more so than video cards, CPU, or latency of RAM.
