i dont think so
mx varieties are able to run without a fan, but anything higher i think they put a fan on for a reason (my gf2mx even gets really hot..and it has a fan)
unless you underclock the core maybe
whats wrong with the fan?
how about replaceing it?
it sounds like the fan is scraping against something, i did clean it and put some lubrication but still the same annoying sound. My only option is to replace the fan i guess.
I think that thermaltake blue orb chipset fan looks good. Can i connect that fan directly to the video card or do i have to use a adapter and connect to one of the powersupply outlets.
Yes you can run it without a fan. Mines ran a few months with the fan dead. I woulldn't move at all. No, I didn't have any problems with games crashing or anything weird. It still worked fine till the day I replaced it with a GF4 4400.
Zalman makes a huge northbridge heatsink that you can probably do some modding to get on your GeForce2. I currently use a GeForce2 MX200 so mine didn't come with a fan.
My mates Heatsink fell off his Geforce2 MX....it then bonded itself to the bottom of the case....I managed to get it off....eventually. That runs with no fan....gets warm but runs fine. GTS is of course 25mhz faster so a heatsink is a good idea but a fan is not a necessity.
One of my friends has a GF2 GTS, and the fan died on that. After about a month, he started getting REALLY bad ghosting on the screen, going across the width of the screen, wherever there was obvious colour changes (black text on white background etc)
I would recommend that you get your self a HUGE heatsink to put on there to dissapate the heat more. Blue orbs/chrome orbs go from like 6$-15$, I would check out one of them first. I got a chrome orb, and they are pretty quiet.
