Can I run an analog monitor off of the DVI output with a converter?

I was one of those that got a bad PNY 6800 at the CompUSA deal (bad analog image quality) and they finally called me back. The tech support guy was pretty nice and just asked me to try plugging in my monitor into the digital port along with the A->D converter, just to verify whether the VGA port or the card was bad, and to call back with the results. Well, I've tried this but it appears as though there is nothing being send along the digital output of the video card, so nothing shows up on screen. Do I need to set up something in the drivers for this to work?

EDIT: Thanks for the replies, I should've edited that shortly after posting I tried restarting with the monitor plugged into the DVI and it worked. Probably should've done that before posting, though.

You need to enable it in the drivers. Go into Control Panels/Display/Settings, click on the icon for the second monitor, and select "Extend my desktop onto this monitor." That will enable the second output.

There is a tab under advanced in your control panel/display/settings/ that says "displays". Under that there is a pic of all the possible displayes (TV, CRT, LCD) you can click which one you want as your primary display, select the '1' by the LCD.

NOTE This is on my ATI card, so the drivers may have different commands but I thought I rememberd this displays tab being the same with nVidia.

My 6800GT will work with a monitor plugged into either port with no extra configuration.

EDIT: I would RMA the card. What if you want to use Dual-Monitors?

ditto. I need to restart to get a monitor to start working if it wasn't plugged in on boot though.
