Can I run a 1.6a (400fsb) on the new mobos that only support 533 and up?

Like I said, can I run a 1.6a (400fsb) on the new mobos that only support 533 or 800 fsb? This cpu would easily do 150 fsb with only a .025 increase in vcore so I would imagine it should work, but would like to know if anyone has tried it before I buy the mobo.

From Abit's website:

The 400 FSB processors which could be used on IC7 series boards are Northwood P4 (512K L2) and Celeron 2G (128K L2, 1.525/1.530 V) and faster.
 
I haven't actually tried it, but it is gonna work. Intel's are the FSB overclocking champs, man! Plus, with the Asus mobos, you can put the fsb at anything you want it at. The board will underclock the fsb just as well as it will overclock it...
 
I think it will work too. This CPU will run 533 fsb (133) with no increase in vcore and I've ran it at 600 (150) with just a .025 v increase in vcore. 🙂
 
The problem may lie in the core voltage of the 1.6A cpu (1.75v) by default the board may not recognize the chips voltage and undervolt the processor preventing it from booting.

this is my guess why. Also there are 2 steppings that run at lower volages so if you have 1 of those you may be OK 🙂
 
I actually have 2 cpu's, a 1.6a and a 1.8a. They are both northwoods (512 cache, 478 pin). I was thinking of getting a Abit IS7 and according to what I could find, it will support 400 fsb down to a 1.8a. Apparently it doesn't have a low enough multiplier for the 1.6a. If anybody knows different please LMK.

Any Northwood P4 should work on the IS7, i've had a Mobile P4 that defaults to a 12x multiplyer running with no problems. I think the older P4's (willmette core) is not compatible because of the higher voltage issue.
