Can I run 2 cards on 1 PCI slot ?

I have a Shuttle SV24 that only has 1 PCI slot.
Can I use a riser card like this to run both my Radeon and a 5.1 sound card.
Is there enough power or bandwidth to double up the cards.
Is there another solution that I have overlooked? Besides buying another motherboard that is.
This will be used in a Matx desktop case.

i'm not sure if that would work, but the problem you have now is that your PCI cards are orientated 90 degrees off their intended axis, so how would you get them to fit in your case correctly?

Wow! Never seen one of those.
It maybe won't fit but it might work.Just depends on how much aggravation you want to go through without destroying the computer!

Thanks flood5, it was worth a shot.
As far as making it fit in the case thats what dremels are for.
One persons aggravation is anothers joy.

Even if the board did work (which is juuuust might, but don't count on it) - there simply isn't ROOM for it in that case. The PCI slot is a snug fit between the CPU cooler and hard drive.

Many have suggested card for video, and use USB speakers. Nt a bad idea unless you already have the sound card and speakers you WANT.

If you don't have the Shuttle system yet, go for a different mini-case like the CasperII from Directron. Takes 4 full-sized cards but is still nice n' small.

Oops... you already have the shuttle.... well, if you're desperate it'll sure sell quickly around here. 😉

Thanks bluemax
I actually purchased the mobo before the case combo existed.
I'm planing on putting it in here.
It looks like it has enough room above the mobo for the two cards.
Could get a Asus CUSL2-M and use the regular slots.
Had other plans for that area though. Cooling in back, and modding a slot dvd-rom in front.

I believe that is a Riser Card for NLX-style motherboards. Remember those horrid setups Compaq and Packard Bell all had years back? With so many manufacturers making those years ago and since each of them had their own way of doing it I'd imagine there were many different slots designed. Maybe one of them decided to make a mock-up PCI slot beacuse it would be cheaper or something?

It does look like a PCI slot (the male end of the card) but take a look at this: this. What in the world would be the purpose of converting one PCI slot to one PCI slot!?!

Then there's the entire question of, if it's real purpose was a PCI to PCI slot, then would there be a case that it would line up in? I very much doubt it. At least I've never seen one.

Oh well maybe that's why ATX is the dominant form-factor today. 🙂

Klein: If you do attempt it let us know what happens!

You know what - after looking around on advantech's website I think what you're trying to do was specifically designed for advantech's computers only. The card you were looking at mention's a few model numbers it's compatible with. If you do a search for one of them you'll find something like this: PCM-9574.

So it is indeed PCI! So it actually looks like it may work! Which makes my previous post completely irrelevant! 😱

But again let us know if it does indeed work! 🙂

Plus to that case you mentioned is that is takes full-sized expansion cards and has good air-flow.
Minus is that your riser card would require a case mod - your riser puts the two PCI slots sideways.
You'd be wise to consider SPECIFICALLY the NLX cases, especially ones that include the riser card! You might get 3PCI instead of 2!
At least you know it'll fit, too!

Why do people love the Shuttle system so much and noone made noide about an even-neater machine like this one with twice the expansion... Microstar 6215 SlimPC

What we need is a system like that but using an nForce chipset for a great, small, fast machine to set up anywhere in the house or bring around to other locations. 🙂

Hi tcrosson ,
The reason for that single PCI slot is so could use a full size PCI card in a flex atx size case.
MSI sells a AMD version here and an intel version overseas. It looks like
this. You can see the way the card is installed. Although they have the picture of the back flipped around.

bluemax, that 6215 is sweet for sure. The thing is I just can't seem to buy a readymade computer. With its built-in mobo you really couldn't play with it much.
The most fun I get nowaday's with is tinkering around with them. It's kinda boring just having them sit there working. Thats why I had to get a few extras.
The old lady got tired of me changing out motherboards twice a week.

definately need one of these boxes with an N-force mobo. I do wish I had bought one of the MSI barebones instead of the SV-24

Infact, I might try to fabricate an ultra-slim PC case for my A7N266-E to put in my van...to replace the SV-24
