Can I RMA my BFG 7800GT OC?

I took the stock cooler off and put a VF700 cooler on and then they have ramsinks too w/ thermal tape.. =(

Edit: Here's my problem.

It's a 7800GT OC. I get weird artifacts when I start up. I've only OCed it once and I have definitely proper cooling. I never let it go above 60 deg when OCing because I opened my case and my house is ACed damn well. I also had a VF700 cooler on it spinning @ max speeds.

I OCed it for 1 day just to bench for 3dMark and what not. I have been running at stock OC settings (425/525) ever since and I don't touch it anymore. If I boot up I get weird artifacts sometimes and my whole screen is blurred. All the stuff in Windows is messed up except my mouse cursor (so I know its not really screwed). This happens about 1/3 times. If I restart it will usually go away (if its still there, I restart again).

I think this only happens when I install Forceware. When I first reformat and use teh Windows drivers, nothing bad happens. Then again I dont use windows drivers for too long before I install Forceware, so I can't be certain....

My card is definitely usable. Oh and when I OCed, I didn't ever hit max. I only hit 470/600 and Rivatuner didnt let me go higher. No artifacts in 3D. I never get artifacts in 3D even when OCed, and all my games (Doom3, FEAR, CS:S) run perfectly fine with no problems no artifacts, no messed up stuff.

I just think my card is somehow damaged because either my screen is entirely fuzzy or it isn't, and thats just a bootup thing. BIOS will look fine, and so will the Win XP splash screen, but the login screen will be totally jacked up (and only my cursor looks ok).

Edit: picature Sorry. IT's not that great cuz I did it on a cameraphone.

Can you find me one product that, when hacked to bits, will still be warrantied?

eVGA, supposedly warrantees cards that have been modded with aftermarket cooling devices.

How will they know if you swap the orginal cooler back on and rma it????
I thought only Evga covers rmaing for OC ?does BFG also cover ocing

evga definitely allows it. i had to rma a 6800gt and it was no problem.

if i were you OP just ask them. thats what i did.

I did say "supposedly", as in some ATers have said that they would cover it. Unless they have some way of distinguishing burn marks from an OC gone bad from the burn marks from a faulty aftermarket cooler, you might be able to get away with it...

Should have got a eVGA...

eVGA covers OCing, bad bios flashes, and aftermarket cooling
They also have a 90day trade-up program if you regret your purchase and want something better...

They don't cover physical damage... (cracked GPU, scratched PCB, or damaged components)

Thats what I get for jumping ona 7800GT the day it came out cuz Dell had that $334 deal for a BFG 7800GT =(

I don't think you can RMA it, and I don't think you should even try to. I mean, you yanked it apart and have modified it physically and OCed it to it's max. Now you are having problems and want the company to pay for your adventure?

My vote is no because I have ethics in my old age.

I guess if I was about 17 I wouldn't care because I knew everything and the world revolved around me back then. Now, in the other half of my life, I am honest and don't pull stuff like this.

Karma and ethics mean something in my life. -don't do it, man 🙂

Fixed.. LoL.. you damn stalker, looking through my pics ^^.

Anyways yea.. LoL. I was in FTP and I opened the image through FTP so I just copied pasted the URL ....

😕 <== FTW!!!

Personally, Id email BFG and tell them *exactly* what happened. Mentioning aftermarket cooling, overclocking etc...

Sometimes being honest with companies will net you an easier solution than having to buy a whole new card.
