I hear walmart has some very lenient return policies. I have seen a friend return an open and ripped halloween costume with no receipt and no problem.

Is this normal? If I bring a video game I bought somewhere else, can I return it there?

no, its completely serious. The game would be unopened. Only store credit? Think I could negotiate this with a manager?

How about opened with receipt? I bought a furnace filter specified as 24"x14". Didn't fit and turned out it was 23.75" x 13.75" . . .

You will not get money without a receipt, period. What's wrong with store credit? Put gas in your car with the gift card.

I have heard of people returning games that weren't bought at that actual store, i.e. someone purchased Gears of War at Toys R Us and hasn't opened it yet and then decides to return it to Walmart. I have not done this myself and I'm not sure if that is even legal but I've read about it a ton of times online.

Target and Walmart both have similar policies. Without a receipt, you can return items...but you only get a few returns per year, per driver's license for store credit. Target may not even allow you to return items at all, or may force you to use the credit in a particular department.

Walmart is your best bet, but it depends on the CSR. Just verify that they carry the game before you try to return something. I once tried to return a camcorder to them in-store that was purchased online...they didn't care it and would not take it back, even though it was new-in box and rang up in the register.

thats not a game.

a game is easy to open and burn. so they tend to not accept them open.

Well it can't hurt to try. And if not, to the FS/FT forum we go. And actually, I am not even sure the game is unopened. I just assumed it was

You not only expect Walmart to buy something from you at retail (certainly not to their advantage), but then you want to spend the money elsewhere? They'll probably take it back for store credit - they allow that a few times a year per person. They record your information from your driver's license to track it.

You'll undoubtedly want to buy one or more games for this system in the future, right? Use the store credit and buy it from Walmart. There you go, store credit spent.

Correct. Also, "not as described on box" is a pretty easy route to a return for the filter.

OP, you're going to get store credit. Escalating the issue to a manager will only waste his/her and your time, and depending on how much of a dick s(he) is feeling like that day, may result in you getting jacks**t instead of credit.

Take the store credit & fill up with gas, or buy a game you do want. :)

It's illegal and basically the same as stealing from them since they'd be giving you money for something you didn't buy there.

I don't see how it would be illegal if they accepted it. Aren't computer systems advanced enough to tell whether or not that actual game was sold at one of their stores?

Anyway, I can live with store credit. I just usually don't shop at walmart, but it is true I can just buy a game there when I want

Why not try and return it to the original store? You can always try places after Christmas when return policies become a little more lenient.

No, sku numbers are the same for all same items they don't put a unique serial number or something on each item.

How can you not think it's stealing from Wal-mart, they'd be giving you money in return for a product you didn't give them money for in the first place.

This must the "Returners Blacklist" of which I've been hearing lately.
