Can I replace my laptop floppy drive with something cool?

Hello!
I have this old Dell Inspiron 2650 that I actually use quite a bit. I have wasted hundreds of dollars upgrading it because I am a damn fool and enjoy doing so, even when I could simply buy something better.

My latest dream is this - I want to rip out the 3.5" floppy drive and slap in something more useful there, ideally a memory card reader. Is there anything on the market for this, is it possible to rig it up with a little elbow grease, or is it near impossible?

Thanks in advance guys,
-Craig

Sure they make them, thats exactly what I've ordered for my new PC to replace the floppy drive. Just make sure you have the required USB ports on your motherboard. For me shouldn't be a problem as the Asus P5B Deluxe comes with 10 USB ports.

I don't think thats gonna fit in a floppy bay in a laptop! :) I know you just missed that fine detail. LOL

doubt it. although you should be able to find a card reader that goes into the expansion slot.

Dang, thanks for the help and advice though. I just hate the idea of 3.5" floppy drive even being in my proximity in the year 2007 - god knows I haven't even seen a disk in years!
