can i put a normal dvd drive onto ata100 connector?

My friend has a dvd drive (i don't know what mode it is, but definitely not ata100, it's a little over a year old), and an asus cubx, that has four ide connectors on board, two of them are ata100. Can he put his dvd drive onto one of the ATA100 connectors? If so, should he use a normal 40pin ide cable, or should he use an ATA100 cable?

it doesn't matter which cable he uses... and yes he can do that..
