Can I plug my AMD X2 3800+ into AM2 board?

I am little confused here.

Online everywhere I read, the AM2 boards boast support for AMD X2 and AMD64. So why can't I plug the X2 3800+ in it??? Can I?

If not, which X2 are they all referring to? They should make this simpler.

Socket A to Socket A. Period.

Socket B to Socket B. Period
Socket C to Socket C. Period. How hard is that?????

The s939 was for DDR1. AM2 is for DDR2. There is a new X2 3800 now, with a proper AM2 interface.

They made it very simple by making your CPU obsolete: AM2 & AM2+ have 940 pins and your cpu has 939.

That is how they do it. Socket 939 to socket 939. Socket AM2 to Socket AM2. So your Socket 939 chip will not fit in a socket AM2 motherboard. So the way you state it is the way it is.

Thanx AMD for putting one extra pin and screwing us up!

I realize that it is Socket 939 to 939, but why does the AM2 board say "AMD X2"....and my 3800+ is an X2! Confusion!!

This is not correct... the socket name does not equal the pin count.

x2 refers to the marketing for dual core cpus. x2's were made for both sockets. due to the integrated memory controller they had to change sockets to support ddr2

No, the socket name IS exactly the number of pins!
