hi there,

I am not able to play Quake 3 "Arena" on my machine. I got my machine yesterday. I get a quake console and errors displayed on it...GL error not able to configure properly. Then it asked me to go online to www.glsetup.com. But i don not have a internet connection at home. Please help me.

config:
Amd Duron 750Mhz Socket A,
FIC AZ11 mother board
256 MB PC133 SD Ram Hyundai,
Asus V7700 Pure (Nvidia GeForce2 GTS 32mb ddr)
Seagate Baracuda 30GB Ultra ATA/100
17" Samsung monitor 750 Sync Master
OS - Windows 2000 Professional

thankyou

Yes you should be able to play it. The only game that hasn't worked out of 60 or so that I have played, is Ground Control (probably something *I* did wrong).

And besides I watched a friend play Q3 on his 2k box. Sounds like you need newer drivers.

you should be able to play it but highly not recommended. play q3 off win98 or ME...

if u have two HDs...then put each os on one harddrive and boot to win98 to play

thanks for the reply Dulanic,

I am visiting the site www.glsetup.com and I'm downloading the glsetup.121.exe. It seems it automatically detects the video card and installs latest versions of the opengl drivers.

I'll inform u after i install it in my machine. i'll also give u in detail the error which was displayed in the quake console.

thanks again

RUBBISH! Quake3 runs faster in Win2000 than in Win9x ffs.

hi Gunbuster,

I just got my machine yesterday night.
Besides I am going in for a cable connection, which I'll do it in about a month.

The man speaks the truth. Runs fine and sweet for me. From memory glsetup won't actually work with a NT/2000 OS. I have all the recent drivers and it's smooth as silk

hi damocles,

I checked out the site and it says that quake 3 is compatible with win2000. i'll check out the display drivers on my machines, if required i'll upgrade them and then check if it works

Good idea dude. I would be surprised if you have issues after updating your drivers. If you do post here when you can and the many computer savvy people here will share their advice (at this time of night you only get nutters like me 🙂)

Yeah, another computer myth: "Windows 2000 is not for gamers." Ranks right up there with "AMD is less stable than Intel."

That is the smartest thing I've heard this month !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
"put the other OS on A DIFFERENT HARD DRIVE"
Good job. I have a Linux, a 98, and a 2000 all setup completely different. It's like having three different computers. Each has the OS on a small partition so if I "need to" I can reformat ( I never do) and reinstall the OS without having to spend a day reloading all the other crap, allot of which are downloads and.........(warez, shhhhhhh).

Quake 3 runs 5 to 14 fps faster in Win2k. (i did my own little benchmark)

Make sure that you have all the lastest patchs/service patch for win2k.

If you mobo has VIA chipset USE THIS Click Here!
After i used this patch, all my 3d related problems went away.

Good luck.

My benchmark results with Sisoft's Sandra and 3dmark2000 and 2001 are for the most part worse in win2k (some parts are better in win2k). But, games run MUCH faster, especially quake3.

I'm running a p3-800EB on an Abit SE6 (815E chip) with 256mb pc133 cas2 Crucial RAM, IBM 75GXP 45GB, and a visiontek Geforce2 MX. It took me a while to get Intel's ATA-100 drivers to work in win2k (I just had to install them like 4 times in a row for some reason), but to me it works much faster than in win98 (and i never crash 😀).

Quake 3 runs great for me in win2k with 7.52 drivers....can I get Quake 2 to work?
I get an error whenever I try to install it, but Ntcompatable.com says it will run.

skemlwan, surely u did something wrong. I have no problem playing Ground Control under Win2000. I've finished it for quite a few months.
