Can I play PS2 disks From Japan on PS3

I got Wangan Nights from Playasia, and it's japanese game, but plays fine on my ps3, So I was wondering if this would work with japanese ps2 games as well

That game was probably region-free.

From what I've read the PS3 enforces any PS2 region coding, along with DVD region coding.

PS3 and PSN games are region free. PS1 and PS2 are not.

The only exception will be the PS1 games off of the PSN.

Hmm I didn't care much for the anime/manga Wangan Midnight... is the game any good? The series was just too drawn out and didn't really have much fun to it unlike Initial D.

I was wondering the same thing myself, I got my ps3 a couple days ago and I have the newer Berserk game for ps2, so maybe I'll try it out tonight. It prolly won't work, but there's no harm in trying it.

I bought a copy of Final Fantasy XII while I was in Japan. It does NOT work on my PS3 (it specifically gives me a region code error of sorts).

I'm now sad, Well alrite, I was sooo hoping this would be it though. Honestly if they don't want me to buy a mod chip, they gotta do it right the first time.
