Can I play Half-Life 2 without the internet??

All this talk about registering with Steam has me worried. I wanted this game but I dont have the internet at home yet.

Is it possible for me to play the game??

Valve thinks no self respecting gamer has no internet. I suggest you start a support group and a petition and sue them or whatever you like.

Is there seriously no option for those without internet access? Why would they limit their customer base to only internet users for an offline game?

Chalk me up as another $50 lost for Valve, as my Game PC has no access and wont for a couple more months. I guess the bright side is that Game Stop will refund my pre-order.....if you can call that a bright side.

Bite me Valve. I'll spend my gaming dollars elsewhere.

no internet = SOL

Maybe sign up for one of those free services because you really shouldn't miss out on this masterpiece. Expectations were high and they were all met or exceeded.

You can play while offline, You would need to bring your computer to work once to register it then you should be able to play in offline mode. Of course right now probably isn;t a good time because so any people are having trouble. Once everything is ironed out I think it would be smooth sailing though.

Yea, just go to the library and authenicate. Set Steam do "off line mode" and you're set.

you have to have internet access for a while in order for that to work

How can you afford to own a computer capable of running HL2 but not be able to afford an internet line? There's also a lot of dialup services like AOL/Earthlink that offer free trial periods.

How long is a while? Can you just go to a buddies house or use a dial-up.....authenticate, and set it to offline mode. Go home, set your steam to offline mode, and then play?

It donesn't have to be "for awhile" he just physiclly needs to bring the computer somewhere where it can authenticate online. I really hope the remove this once the game isn't so new anymore and sales are starting to drop off.

I just moved from town to out in the country. No adsl/cable available and dial-up just sucks. So maybe I'll buy Far Cry instead, I heard it was pretty good.

FarCry is definitely a great game.

Actually now that I think about it, I'm still not finished with that game...or several others...😛
