Can I permanently pin a program to the taskbar?

Hmmmm, All this time Ive been using this I have never accidently hit that ... what mouse you got what surface ?

You can try quick launch or/then classic view,, yuck!!!

Its permanent until you hit unpin. That is your bad. Maybe we should all gather up and upgrade your mouse and the surface, 🙂 gg and gl

It is permanent until you unpin it. Sounds like you need to work on your procedures. 🙂

windows being the way it is, i'm sure there's a registery edit to do that, but what i'd like to know is how you find yourself UN-pinning it in the first place? that action seems pretty deliberate

I've had it happen when opening a second IE window. The "Unpin" command is right below the "Internet Explorer" command.

It's just a habit thing. I've been right clicking since forever.

Time change, if your old method is constantly causing you problems then it's time to look for a new method. Force yourself to do it for a few days and you'll start doing it without even thinking about it.

Shift click will make a new window? Cool.

I have found that you can just middle-click on windows when you are aero-peeking, and that will close them. Much easier than trying to hit the little 'X' in the corner.

My setup being the way it is (HTPC hooked up to a 47" 1080p screen), it's preferable to use the mouse almost exclusively, and only get the keyboard out when necessary.

Then maybe you need to consider an alternate UI for your HTPC so it fits better into the usage patterns instead of trying to force the Windows mouse/kb UI into a job it wasn't designed for.
