can i overclock this?

my friend is getting a mobile 2400+ and he's got everything, except a good mobo. he has an old MSI k7t266 Pro 2 version 1.0. He wants me to try and overclock the computer and see if it works before he has to go buy a new mobo if it doesnt. Since that motherboard allows only a max fsb of 133, can i just raise the multiplier to, say 16 or 18, so that the speed of 18 x 133 is equal to 2394MHz? cuz if i can do that stabily and without a problem, he has no problem with it. the ram he has is OCZ 512MB DDR PC-3200 with timings 2-3-3-6 and his psu is a generic 430 Watt.

i happen to own that motherboard,i was originally going to put my mobile in it. it was,for its day, one of the best overclockers for the inital 266 socket A chips. it supports really high multiper settings if i remeber correctly and plenty of voltage and FSB settings. i don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to push it to 16x133.

edit: you might want to ditch the pitiful original NB cooler and jack the FSB beyond 133.

You aren't going to be able to overclock with that motherboard without pin-modding the processor. You're going to have a maximum of a 12.5x multiplier, with a 133fsb, which is going to be underclocked.

why is that? if that was true it wouldn't be able to pull the stock 1.8ghz? 12.5 x 133 = 1.66ghz

Your friend should get a better PSU like an Antec, Enermax, PC Power and Cooling, etc.

As for the board, obviously you won't be able to get like 200 FSB outta' it, and I'm not sure about the multi's, so I'll let another member tackle that

Actually since it's a mobile, it will boot at the lowest multiplier your motherboard supports... for example, mine booted at 800 MHz... 6x133... those old Via chipsets don't have the ability to adjust multipliers... so you'll probably be stuck at 800 Mhz.
