can i make windows recognize my x2 3800 without reinstalling?

Hiya, got my 3800 x2 today (and dfi lanparty nf4).. installed winxp pro with sp2, updated all critical/non-critical updates.. then realized.. (yes it took me that long to realize) .. that windows is running one core. CPU-Z ids it as a manchester, but i can't select different cores. And Windows says "AMD Hammer Family processor - Model Unknown 2.01 GHz, 1.00GB of RAM"

HELP! Instead of thinking logically, I'm crying inside (figuratively)!

and hrmm, everest says "Hey bud, ya have a dual core" .. in not so few words..

more info: i have the 3/10/05 bios  installed

Does your bios properly recognize it? Perhaps you needed to do a bios update prior to installing windows. I had to as my motherboard didn't recognize the dual core with the bios it came with. A repair install may work afterwards to get windows to properly utilize the dual cores, otherwise you may have to do a re-install.

IF your bios detects it properly all you have to do is change your "computer" driver from "ACPI Uniprocessor" to "ACPI Multiprocessor" and you'll be set.

I have the same board with x2 3800. Update the bios to 6/xx/05 bios and windows automatically recognized the dual core and update the driver itself. Very easy fix after the bios update.
