can i make this overclock any better ?

Hi guys heres what ive set my bios settings to
cpu Vcore 1.5v
clock speed 250mhz
k8 cpu multiplyer x10
HT multiplyer x5
cpu spread spectrum OFF

in the bios theres something called limit memory frequancy and max is 200mhz which ive set it to but cpu-z reports that memory is running at 250mhz i think will post screenshot shortly, i should really run memtest....

prime95 ran fine i only ran it for an hour temp stayed at 46 degrees and idles at 29 , im using stock heatsink and fan .. will run this overnight to make sure its stable

tried running at 260 and 270 with 1.55 and 1.6v clock speed it works ok boots into windows fine but prime95 fails within less than 5 mins , tried lowering HT to x4 but still the same

What do you guys think is this a decent overclock ? what can i use to benchmark so i can see the difference with it at stock 2000 and overclocked 2500 mhz ? im pretty new at this so if you guys can give me some hints as to how i could improove this would be much appreciated

lol x5 HT at 250Mhz :shocked: are you sure thats right .. becuase that would be a first for a gigabyte mobo with regards to 1250HT as far as i know. Try lowering your HT to 3x this wont affect performance what so ever, and should allow you to OC a bit higher, also try the 9x multi with a faster BUS to see if this helps..

well ive set ht freq to x5 , dunno if its actually running it at that , this motherboard reports stuff pretty dodge , is there something in win thatl report the ht x ?

i set the k8 cpu multiplyer to x9 and the clock speed is now at 270
for overall system performence is
270 x 9
better than
250 x 10 ?

the spuper PI and prime95 benchmarks are a bit slower though ?

hmm perhaps you are running at a HT multi of x5, and you have a good stable board, unfortunately i am not aware of any software within windows that indicates what your HT multi is set at, maybe someone else has a program that is able to do this.

What you have at the moment is 270 x 9 = 2430 Mhz CPU clock or 2.43 Ghz

and 250 x 10 = 2500 Mhz Clock or 2.5Ghz

The faster CPU speed is better, this is what you are primarily looking for

As you are using generic brand RAM i presume you are running a divider??


I would recommend the following:

1. set your RAM divider to run the RAM at 100Mhz from the standard 200Mhz.

2. Increase the voltage of you chip to 1.55v (as you are using stock cooling it is not advisable to go any higher, unless temps permit, 1.6V tops)

3. lower your HT multi to 3x

4. then keep increasing the HTT in small increments on the 9x multi and the 10x multi to try and achieve near 2.6Ghz, i say 2.6 because that is the average OC for a Venice

so that would be 10 x 260Mhz = 2.6Ghz .. or 9 x 288 = 2.6Ghz (if your board can handle up to 290 Mhz HTT)

once you have found the optimum stable CPU frequency, i would recommend to adjust the divider so the RAM speeds is around 200Mhz, basically stock settings. If you find that with the divider and having to compensate with the max CPU speed, your RAM falls short of 200Mhz try and tighten up the RAM timings ..

thankx richUk that makes alot of sense , only thing is i cant seem to find how to set the ram divider , theres something that lets you limit the ram speed .. i think it auto sets the devider acordingly gota look into that gona try what you said asap

yeah i see what you mean, if you look here i also can not see an option for the RAM divider, within the OCing options ..

ill see if i can find out how to change it, i would suggest also maybe asking about the dividers in the Motherboard forum aswell, as other users with that board will know alot more about it then i would ..
