Can I install Dell Windows XP on an old NEC laptop?

I just bought a new Dell Desktop and I'm thinking of reformatting the hard drive of my NEC laptop and putting the XP on it. So I have a couple of questions:

1. Can I use my Dell XP disk to install XP on the NEC laptop?
2. Can my 400 MHz laptop handle XP?
3. Do you recommend it?

Right now I'm using Win 98 SE and am having problems with it.

u could copy the i386 file(if it's there) to the hard drive and install it from there. i don't know about activating it though :S

1. No
2. Yes, but 256+ MB RAM would be desirable
3. If it ain't broke, don't mess with it. However, WXP for newer laptops is actually a good idea. Good power management and ClearType alone are solid improvements.

The answer is yes but. You can install it and it will work BUT its gonna ask you to activate it and IIRC Dell OS disc don't come with CD key so in 30 days its gonna stop working,
