Lightweight, powerful, easy to fix/maintain yourself, relatively affordable, and reliable as well as practical as in carrying at least 2 people with luggage for a weekend trip?

I don't know about easy to fix. Most modern cars don't fall into that category without a decent amount of automotive knowledge.

I'm a big fan of the current generation of muscle cars, though, you really get bang for your buck.

When Datsun came out with the 240 Z, I was living in Japan. I think they were going for about three grand. That would seem to meet your criteria.

Now, other than powerful, a Miata would work. So would the new BRZ.

Then you would be overspending. Sounds like you want a M3 to me. The m3 fits the bill in all but one of your categories.

If your worried about mechanicals then get an extended warranty. You could get 20k miles of worry free driving as long as you understand consumables and some suspension are gonna be on your tab.


To get to the horsepower to weight you want you are gonna have to pay for it in one way or another since your coming from a car that already has 300 at the wheel.

135 will not be easy to fix and maintain yourself, in my opinion.

I had similar requirements when buying my last car, after test driving mustang, c6, 370z, z4 (current and previous gen), m3 (current and previous gen), along with various others and I ended up with a z4 m coupe.

It's not for you if you're over 6', and there isn't much storage room, but plenty enough for two people to drive across the country from vegas where I bought it


370z or vette will probably be the easiest to maintain
