I was wondering if it is possible to put two soundcards in the same computer (and both enabled) without windows crashing on me, seems to me I tried this once before and had no luck.

I know you can have two different sound cards installed at once, but I don't think you can use them simultaneously.

you are only half right... whatever program you are using must have settings to pick what sound ouput you want to use if it isn't the windows default... that and you need a second speaker hookup

In order to have 2 output devices running simultaneously you would either have to be running 2 separate programs, each with one of the output devices chosen, or have some way of running the output through both at the same time (OS supported perhaps).

Is there really any need to have both sound cards in there?

i had an onboard sound that i didn't disable then i added a soundblaster audigy. i can switch back and forth, never tried to run them both simultaneously tho.

bottom line, it didn't screw up my os.
