The best that I have done is to ask them to hold for a minute, then go fix a snack and then come
back and talk for a minute more then go do something else and see how long they hold for. I got one guy that held for about 20 minutes. (I was looking for my credit card)

The caller gets more and more flustered and embarassed. Very amusing.

That wasn't the Touchtone Terrorists, was it?

I'm a credit card collector... most people don't mess with me because they know I'll close their account by option of the bank and damage their credit. If they are nice, I offer to help them out with interest/fees.

You should be careful though . . .

My old roommate used to be a phone salesman <yea i know- mob and lynch him>

He told me that if anybody was a jerk on the phone- they'd put them on this special "list"- and they would call and bug 'em aaaaallll the time.

Might explain why those who're jerks to them get so many of those phone calls.

Let them, I'll just have more fun with them. I really am waiting for the next telemarketer call so I can fvck with them, but we are on some kind of blocking list already so they never call.

It's possible you'll get a visit from the police and a good laugh with them...but I wouldn't worry beyond that.

Pretend to have narcolepsy and let the caller know of your condition. Have long stretches of non-response, but not long enough that the caller will hang up the phone. When you "wake up", answer the phone with complete confusion forcing the caller to re-explain what they are selling/who they are/etc. Repeat the process as long as possible.
