Can I get blaster if the slave drive has it

my brothers computer has the blaster worm but, i just upgraded his hard drive so now the main HD is free and clean but i need to get data off the old drive so i want to slave it to the new HD but i dont wanna do that if ill get the blaster. i havent downloaded any updates updates because i need to dial in. what do u suggest
