I've got a AM2 3500+, Abit KN9 SLI, and 2 gigs of Value select DDR2 667.

I'm not lookin to push my system to the limit and dont really even care about a performance increase.. just interested in what my CPU could run stable and learnin about ocin a bit.

I'm guessin the cheapest RAM on the market is not good for OC'ing.. can I just change the divider so the memory doesnt change speed or is there more to it?

thanks

just change the divider so that ur not overclocking the ram, thats all to it... make sure u set the timings correctly... at sertain dividers my comp crashed cause the board did not detect the timing.

Yeah, using a memory divider (running the RAM at a slower speed) will allow you to overclock as high as you would have been able to, if you had bought more expensive, faster RAM. It comes with some performance penalty, though. The penalty isn't as much for Athlon 64's, though.

About cheap DDR2 memory....I think it's the best option....why? About performance: In real world apps, there's hardly any significant difference in performance...by buying expensive memory you are "saving" some seconds of work...just seconds...and only a few of them...in games...hardly 1 fps....so it's up to you.

IMO, I would not buy the cheapest of all DDR2 sticks...but the ones with a cheap price and a good performance, I mean, the best ones considering price to performance ratio.
Take a look at mines in my sig...It's a 1gb of cheap GEIL value series rated to run at DDR2 800 5-5-5-18 with 1.8v.....Actually they are able to run error free at speeds higher than DDR2 1000 5-5-5-15 with only 2.25v....and I have them running 24/7 at DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 with 2.1v like more expensive Ram dimms do.

So, to sum up...increase your dimms voltage and test where they can get....and don't feel embarrassed or frustated because of cheapy Ram,ok?

Once you know your memory's max capabilities, you decide wether or not to use a divider...maybe you can run it 1:1.....so TEST!!
Cheers!

I have 1GB (2 x 512MB) of 533 DDR2 RAM at 4-4-4-12-2T (not sure of the voltage).
How best can I OC my D915 CPU?
What would be a good divider to use?

Hi,

Can someone explain these timing things? Especially the 1T and 2T and how you get it?

I resently bought 2 sticks of HyperX 1 gig memory. Said it was 1T (2-3-2-6-1) DDR-400. I cannot seem to ge the 1T. I bought expensive hoping that it would help with the oc'ing, but it does not seem to have helped much, if any.

I am oc'ing my X2 4800+ from 200MHz to 230MHz using WC.

I haven't seen a 1G stick that does 2-3-2-5 @230MHz. Mine does up to 220MHz at the said timing. Loosen the timing to 2.5-3-2-5 (or even 3-3-2-5) if you want a high frequency. Otherwise, use dividers for up to ~220MHz (2-3-2-5), and ~260MHz (2.5/3-3-2-6). If those are Infineon sticks, giving more VDIMMs than 2.8V won't do any good.
