Hey guys, normally i would try to find an article on the net but this forum seems to be the best way to get a straight answer. I want to fax documents but i don't have a fax machine so i was wondering if i can use my pc instead. thanks.
WinFax by $ymantec or FREE V3 call center .http://www.v3inc.com/freecc.htm . you need a scanner to fax, or you can fax documents written in your computer. best format is black & white tiff @150 DPI for scanning.
There's also www.efax.com ,but you have to pay $13 a month to be able to send. It's free fot recieving(basic account) and you can always upgrade - can not downgrade from paid to free. Beauty of efax is that faxes sent to you came to your e-mail box so you can recieve anywhere.
Also important to note that for faxing, your computer must have a dial up modem connected to your telephone line. A cable connection alone will not do. Not sure about a DSL modem.
You can fax from XP using the fax software built in. It is not installed by default though. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components and put a check next to Fax Services. Have your XP disk handy.
I have not used the software built into XP and I suspect it is not very full featured. Myself, I use V3 Call Center as recommended earlier. All excellent suggestions here.
If you have a dialup modem, it can be done straight from your phone line. Just use windows fax, it's built in and free, albeit a bit of a pain to use though not an issue for only ocassional faxing.
If documents on the computer are to be faxed, just a Modem is enough.
I used the XP inbuilt fax feature. It works decently. You can also fax using the fax feature in windows 98 (me thinks)... You need to install it seperately.
