Hi all,

I have got a 100% legit copy of Lord Of The Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth and have had this for years... well since it came out anyway!

Problem is that i have not seen the manual in about the same length of time god knows where it is??? The serial for the game was on the manual...

The EA support website is a TOTAL NIGHTMARE - along with most things EA based...

So, i was wondering if i could somehow 'sniff' out the serial before i wipe and re-install my system... the lack of serial for this game is the only thing holding me back...!!

Thanks for all your help !!!

Probably the registry, though most software companies have wised up to that method. Rarely in use anymore, especially without some kind of encryption.

Iolo's system Mechanic had some software re-location feature. Maybe you can use that. Dunno if that has been kept in the newer versions, though.

It is in the registry, I don't have it installed anymore, so I'm not sure what key its in. No encryption.

Just done a little digging around in the registry... (not very experienced with this kind of thing)

but managed to find something that looks suspiciously like a cd key serial - however it is too long... any ideas how i find out which bit i need?

under C:my comp --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> Software --> The Battle for Middle Earth --> Product GUID...

there is a 32 didgit number/letter combi... the serial should only be a 20 digit number/letter combi

any idea which part of the code i need ???

or am i in the totally wrong place??

thanks again

Read again under "Lost or Missing Serial Replacement". You meet the requirements if "The product is 90 days past the purchase date". And you can send in one of the game discs as proof of purchase.

This is what you need. You need someone with a CD key on hand and type it into their regedit search. Then they will find the string location. You then need to go to the same string and find your key and write it down. Again, I would help you, but I don't have that game anymore.
