Can I Explore a DVD by Double-Clicking it in My Computer?

Just bought a new DVD RW drive, and when I tried out the Terminator 3 DVD in it, I had to install some InterActual player on top of my Nero (which worked fine) to view the DVD. I liked Nero/WMP better for playing discs, so I uninstalled the T3 player, but now when I double click a DVD in My Computer, the error "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action..." etc. I'm sure before I installed and uninstalled that stupid T3 player I could double click my DVDRW icon and it would explore that disc in the drive, but now I can't.

Can I reenable edouble-click=launch explorer for my DVD drive? The folder options looked to only be for Autoplay.

Thanks!

This is more of an OS type software question, which I believe they have another section for. What you may want to do is open my computer, go to Tools, Folder Options, File Types, select DVD Video, then click Advanced. Here, you should be able to setup Nero or WMP to be the default application to use for vewing DVD's. For Action, you would use "&Play", and under Application used to perform action, it would look like this: "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:4 /device:DVD "%L"". I have PowerDVD installed, so mine would look like this: Action "PlayWithPowerDVD", Application used to perform action: "C:\Program Files\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe %1"

Another easy way to fix this might be to rerun windows media player setup, and make sure to allow it to be the default player for dvd's.

Yeah - this is really an OS matter - just change your registered file associations for DVD file. The WMP suggestion is a good one for that sort of thing.

bocamojo, I tried entering the lines that you provided, and it worked, thanks! As expected, a double click now does something other than produce an error, so we're getting somewhere. The 'Play' that was entered had no command lines or action, I guess that stupid T3 view screwed it.and didn't replace it when it uninstalled. Is there a quick way to change it to open the DVD in explorer rather than play it in WMP?

Do you want to really explore a dvd movie or play it?
To play it you must use a dvd playing program such as wmp, powerdvd etc, opening it in explorer won't get you anywhere.
BTW, you originally posted, that the dvd made you install the T3 player. It might of mislead you to do that, but I'm sure it was an option. In future choose no, when asked.

I clicked the X to get out of it and it popped back up. That was the first chance I'd ever had to look at the ROM bonus features supplied with a movie, so I thought it woudln't hurt. Live and learn I guess.

I want to explore it, bring up the contents like they'd be displayed in a folder on a HDD. I'm fairly certain that's what it did when I first put a disc in, and I'm a little OCD about keeping things the way they are by default. Now when I put a disc in, it automatically goes into explore mode thanks to my autoplay settings, and when I double click a disc in My Computer, it plays. If I could get it to explore rather than play I'd be happy again, but at least it's not producing erros anymore.

You may want to turn off AutoPlay altogether. If you have PowerToys for Windows XP (and I am assuming you're running XP), then go in into Tweak UI and look for My Computer. Click the Plus, then go down to AutoPlay and click the Plus. Now select Types. You will have two checkboxes available on the right pane: Enable Autoplay for CD and DVD drives is the one you want. Just uncheck that box and click OK, then no more Autoplay.
