Can I expect AMD s939 price drops any time soon?

When nVidia launches their 8 series (8600, 8800, etc) w/ DX10 I would expect current cards to drop in price significantly (likewise for ATi). As for processors, I would expect the same thing. AM2 and Conroe processors will become the the better value after a while though.

AM2 prices are expected to be higher than the current 939 chips. AMD may drop the prices on current 939 though to use up the availble supply. Its kinda hard to guess whats going to happen. If people start grabbing the left over 939s that could drive prices up. I'm thinking by the time Conroe launches a price change will be seen. Wether we see a price drop before that is the big question. My guess is that there wont be much of an advance notice. AMD will just do it.

I'm waiting for AMD X2 4800+ prices to drop or get a good deal on AT's FS forum. I got a super deal on a 4400+ plus a couple of months ago.
939 should be around for a while so I'm just waiting for others to 'jump ship'.

The advantage of the AM2 over the 939 wont happen until 2007 according to one article I read. For 2006 its suppose to be pretty much even performance. The AM2 will take us above and beyond 3GHz which is a good thing. I think one of the biggest early factors people will want to know about the AM2s is, 'How well will they overclock?"

I think it all depends on the demand. As someone who is on a budget, I would hope to see the Socket 939s to come down in price. Something tells me, though, that so many people will have this same intent that Socket 939s will be in demand for a year yet, keeping the price of 939 and AM2 processors up.

I hope I'm wrong.
