Can I downclock memory....especially dual channel?

I am at a place with this system where I need to upgrade some components but want to make sure the things I add will remain useable on a new system when I go that route in 6 months or so. My main concern is memory. I have seen lots of good deals on dual channel memory lately and would like to upgrade to 2 gigs of dual channel but my current mobo (Lanparty NFII Ultra) only supports DDR400. I was wondering if I could buy the faster memory and simply downclock it to DDR400 speeds for now instead of buying DDR400 only to need to replace the memory in a few months?

nope. it will run at the speeds that the bios tells it to. im running pc3700 ram at ddr400 speeds right now.

you wont need to downclock it it will do it automatically.
