I want to know what is the best wireless set up for 3 machines if you want to use one machine as a file server and a web/ftp/mail server - plus occasional gaming duty.

Got 3 computers.

Wifes,
Mine,
Sons.

I want to have an optimal 802.11b setup where my son's computer acts as a file/web/ftp/mail server (I just use certain programs under Win2k - not a server OS).

So I want his computer to be reachable from the internet, but I also want my computer to be reachable from the internet too. I had a wired router once, and you could only set ONE DMZ zone, after that you had to get into port forwarding which is honestly over my head.

Here is what I was thinking to solve that.

Cable Modem wired to my son's computer. Second NIC in son's computer going to WAN port on 802.11b router, sharing main connection to second NIC going to WAN port on router. Router then shares the connection between my computer and my wife's, and I set the DMZ in the router to allow my computer unrestricted access to the net?

Will that work? I'm skeptical . . .

Also I welcome any suggestions.

Cliff's notes:
Have 3 computers
Want 2 of them to have unfettered access to the internet.
Wireless setup.

Thanks!

I do not know why you are planning the Dual NIC Dual NAT concoction, beside trouble and dividing the Network in to two it does not any thing else in your case..

I would Not use the Kid?s computer as the "Server? since it has the most probability to crush get infested, and distribute the family ?Fortune" trough the Internet.

Put the Router next to your computer and connect it with a Wire.

The wife and son computers might be Wired or Wireless.

Ignore the prices in the links above. The same or similar hardware can be found for 60%-90% less.
