Can i delete one win from dual boot w/o effecting other..?

Actually i m thinking of installing Windows XP with my current win 98 and having dual boot but i don;t know wot i will do if one of them unfortunately get corrupted ... is there a way out by deleting or formating the partition which has the corrupted windows and keeping the other windows intact and running..?
