Can I delete IE6 in Win 2K?

My Internet Explorer has been corrupted somehow. I have tried updating to latest versions, no changes tho. ALso have gone back to older version, again, no change. The problem appears to be that when I go to a web site, and then try to link to another, my IE freezes. Not the PC, just IE. I have DL'd the IE6 again, and then went to delete IE and reinstall, but in settings, add/remove programs, I do not have the option to remove or uninstall IE. I have installed the new IE over my existing IE, but it has not offered a solution.
I did DL Netscape, and it is working fine, but I would prefer my IE back!

I have also just finished restoring my original windows, which took me back to IE 5.5 and it is doing the same thing, freezing everytime I try to click on a link. I am hoping there is some way to delete IE completely and then reinstall it without having to reformat my entire system.

I also have tried restoring Win 2K, but no luck. I am at a complete loss for how to handle this!
Any suggestions?
TIA
