The stores in my area inflate the price of the DVD version and im too cheap to buy it, plus the place that had it did not take checks, so i am forced to buy the 5 cd version, dont want to change thru them while installing it in the future, can i just copy the contents of all 5 cds into one directory and then burn to dvd?

Why not just install the game, then copy the installed and patched game folder onto a DVD, then you never need to properly reinstall again, just copy the DVD to a folder on your HDD after a muck up/OS reinstall.

My copy of the original UT and of Unreal 2 works fine after OS reinstalls without being reinstalled, and the latest UT2k4 patch means the game doesn't need the CD.

but doesnt the thing have registry entrys and crap that needs to be installed besides the stuff that is located within the games directory?

If it's like all the other Unreal games, from the first one to the latest generation, then no, it doesn't have reg keys that need to be there from installation, it just works.
UT and Unreal 2 as I said don't need to be installed to work.

You need to install UT2004 to get the CD key verified.

The DVD version has folders CD1...CD6 at the root level - try doing the same for yours.

Although your game works ... you wont be able to install patches. (Unreal2)
The patches check the registry for installed 'keys'.

On the other hand,,, there probably arent any more patches comming.

Which brings me to my question. Are there any programs that can restore those registry links to your games after a os reinstall. Any commerical or freeware programs that can restore those links so that you don't have to reinstall everything all over again?

I think you can 'extract' them...

BUT,,, it's possible to miss some of them ... so try at your own risk.

I use a program called 'registry cleaner', that might be able to help you out.
(I use an old free beta)
But, I've never used it to restore anything.

With the official patch you can play without a cd. Whats the point of putting it on one dvd? Even though itll save you time for reinstalling if it works wont it really be taking up more time because youre going through all the effort of copying it to the dvd?
