My mom or someone told me I won't be able to collect unemployment due to the fact that I am a student.

My company was bought out and they are laying everyone off. They are making everyone re-apply.

Myth or truth?

I believe you can still receive UIB, as long as you're looking for work and not going to school full time

Woah, good question...do you work full time? Does your mother or someone else claim you as a dependent? I don't think that being a student or not would have much to do with if you could collect unemployment or not, but if you worked full-time without someone else claiming you as a dependent....maybe you could?

I'm 21 and I am pretty certain that nobody claims me as a dependant, or can they still claim me even though I'm over 21?

IIRC, they can claim you till you are 23.

Ok n/m it's a possibility that one of them are still claiming me then.

Cool, I honestly don't even know being a dependent makes a difference or not. 22 here and this is the first time my parents aren't claiming me....yay for the first time personal $3050 exemption on taxes this year.

Good luck with the un-employment, maybe you can google this and find some resolution...or, just call the unemployment office.

Unemployment rules are that you must be available to work if a position is offered within your line of work.

If schooling would interfer, you are out of luck.

Best bet is to attend school part time after you file for unemployment.
At that point, you are improving your skills while looking for work.

If you decline a position due to school interfering, you will be SOL.
