Can I change an LPT port into a COM port?

I am trying to connect a piece of datalogging software (Kaye Validator 2000) to my Windows 2000 laptop. I have a cable running from the 9-pin output of the equipment to the 25-pin port on my laptop. The problem is that the software will only let me select from the COM ports and the 25-pin port is an LPT port. Is there any easy way reconfigure the port to be a COM port?

Thanks,
VTHodge

COM - serial RS232, LPT - parallel. Completely different.

You might find some parallel - to - serial adapter box somewhere if you google, or you could look for a USB - to- serial / COM.

Thanks Dave (Edit: and Phil).
It looks like USB-to-serial is what I need. Guess I'm going back to Staples (hope they have one!).
