Can I buy the stock Intel Mounting Bracket?

Hello,

My SLK-947U + smart fan2 is mounted via the 4 bolt holes surrounding the cpu [a P4 2.8C].

The setup is ridiculously loud [~50+ dB] so I was looking at getting a XP-120 or a Xp-90 as a result. These [and many heatsinks for that matter] mount via the stock bracket that comes with the motherboard. This was removed and subsequently lost later on...

Is there any way I can buy one and re-attach it to my motherboard so that I may use these heatsinks? Or am I out of luck??

Thanks all!

Yes, you can buy replacement brackets. Nexfan.com and centrix-intl.com have them, as do several other online stores. Newegg used to carry them, maybe they still do. Intel will also sell you one through their online parts store.

Another good source would be a "WTB" ad in the "For Sale" forums. Lots of folks pull these brackets and have them laying around collecting dust.

Mom-n-Pop computer stores may also be a source.

Thank you so much for the heads up. I didn't see them at newegg which is the main place I use to buy my pc - equipment. I will go to the sites you mention. Now hopefully I can quiet my system! 🙂

Here's to hoping the XP-120 fits my system now... 😀

On the off-chance anyone is reading & knows the answer;

I know it fits the standard Abit IC7 but i think the Max-3 has a larger cooler for the northbridge chipset and also there is the large otes cooling apparatus at the tail end of the motherboard.

Thanks a ton all!

From the Thermalright XP-120 compatability page:

"Does it fit the IC-7 Max-3? No. But can be modded to fit".

I saw that but how can i "mod it"..

I assume I would need a dremel of some sort? I have no idea where to begin.

Thanks!

The series of pics posted in the "modded to fit" link show exactly what you have to do.
