Yep, when I lived in Panama, I found that out too. My family wanted to see a total eclipse, but the are that would reciegve 100% totality was by the Darien provence, and we my excellent compatriot found out that there was no way to get there in a normal car.
Had to chuckle when I saw Clear and Present Danger. Had eaten lunch many times in the restaurant where bad CIA guy Ritter meets William Dafoe's character. Started to watch Tailor of Panama to see some other familiar sights, but the movie was so awful, coudn't make it to the end.

The tailor of panama was HORRIBLE :disgust: I only watched the beginning to see Panama also, but that was one sh!tty movie.

Sh!ity? I thought it was quite good, except for the ending.

What I wanna do is take a plane down to a city and purchase one with the help of my dad who knows Portuguese very well. Then I drive off to the states! I'm pretty sure I can register it here with the DMV. But can I do it?!?

If you are using AT as your reference, then you are a fvcking fool

I just wanted to get a general opinion. It does meet all US safety/emission laws. So I think I'll just have some dealer import it for me.

You know dealers getting cars made in other countries isn't cheap right?

Just Googled it - looks like an Escape to me...

Are you smoking CRACK? The story line was horrible. It is nothing like how Panama really is. :frown:

You "could" drive from brazil to the states but would you make it back alive? Probably not.

Dude, it's not possible unless you have an all terrain vehicle. There are no roads that connect Panama and Columbia. Just trails that are hardly ever used, which makes them almost impassable.

The EcoSport is equipped with an AWD. Plus, if I really need to I could stick some swamp tires on it. I checked the safety/emission results and they're within limits of US laws.

Edit: I also found out it's going to be sold in Mexico! :D

I understand it is much easier now to import cars from Mexico nowadays with loopholes in NAFTA. There is a guy on Audiworld who imports RS4s from Mexico. Since it is available in Mexico, it makes things much easier.

There was something recently passed to that allows cars of "special" interest or something to be imported and passed customs much more easily. BUT they cannot be driven more than 5000 miles a year or something.

That makes two of us who thought it was good. It's on hbo all the time it seems and I always catch a bit of it at least. I'll have to get it one of these days.

I wouldn't buying something from Brazil and then trusting to be able to drive it a few thousand miles.
