Can I bring my backpack along to the airport?

This is probably a stupid question...

I'm not going to bring any luggage, just my backpack and I'm gong to stuff it with my books and other stuff. I was wondering if I could bring that along to my seat. I doubt it'll fit in the overhead storage place. I've only been in an airplane once, so that's why I ask. I wonder if it's a security or safety concern or whatever. Thanks in advance.

Unless your backpack is suited to fit a grown man INSIDE I'm sure it will fit in the overhead bin. I've seen idiots bring entire suitcases onboard and cram them up there.

Yes you can..but they will run it through the xray thing on your way through secruity so make sure you have nothing on their "don't bring on the plane" list. Scissors, knives, nail clippers...

Your backpack must be huge to not fit into the overhead compartment. Well, what kinda plane will you be in? I usually fly in a 737 I think from Sacramento to LA and back. I never check baggage and usually have a backpack on and a duffel bag on my shoulder. I'd put the duffel bag in the overhead and the backpack at my feet since it has like books and stuff for me to do.

Southwest at least allows you 2 carryons I think. Best to check with your airline and see the maximum dimensions and such.

or a screwdriver. I always keep a damn multitool screwdriver in my backpack because I use it for biking and I've had to mail it to myself twice now.

Alright, thanks for the replies. I'll be riding on American Airlines for just the 2nd time in my life and for the first time alone. It should be fun 🙂

Sacramento to LA? For what? You better be a Kings fan.

Anyways, just take it, as everyone has said the storage bins fit stuff easily.
