Can I bring a suitcase into the terminal and have it valeted instead of checking it?

I'm flying Southwest tomorrow and I need to make my travel time as short as possible, which means not checking my bags if I can help it. Can I bring a smaller roller suitcase (probably a bit too big to carry on) and leave it be valeted at the gate?

(I travel between these two towns a lot so I have toiletries on both ends, so I won't be bringing any liquids or pastes. I usually drive there, but this time I need to fly for lack of time.)

How are you going to get to the gate without checking in? Or do curbside check-in and leave the bag there.

Otherwise every single passenger would want to do what you're suggesting.

Uhm... carry it through security. Just like I would for a bag that was carry-on sized.

And the big issue is the 30 minutes wait to pick up my bag at the receiving in. Its not the check in time I'm worried about.

No, because you can't bring liquids, knives, or anything hazardous into the terminal. You need to check lots of stuff.

I don't see any problem with doing that - people do it all the time. I just flew this week and the employees at the gates were mentioning new federal size restrictions for carry-ons. I don't know much about it, but they were forcing just about everyone to gate check just about everything even things that could easilly fit overhead. They (Delta) also mentioned that there may be a fee for this service in the future.

the last time i flew, it was on United.
they made me gate check (valet check) my carry-on bag, it was just a standard size carry-on bag.

granted it was a smaller type jet and there was obviously no room for everyone's carry-ons.

They tagged it with a green tag, I put it on the cart and at O'Hare they had us wait in the tunnel after the flight to pick it up.

no fee.
