I can't seem to get an IDE cdrom to boot with an Asus p3bf, is it even possible. Am I missing something, I have tried every setting I could imagine in the bios. Tried 2 different cdroms (Teac and Afreey) two different p3bf's and for the life of me I can not get it to boot from the cdrom. I have used these boards with scsi cdroms for a while and have no problem booting from a bootable cd with the scsi cdrom, just can't get an IDE cdrom to boot. If I remember correctly I had the same problem with an Abit BH6. Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is possible to boot from an IDE CDROM. Make sure that in the Boot section of the BIOS, you have the correct combination/order of boot up devices....floppy, then CDROM, then hard disk. Hit DEL IMMEDIATELY after all the IDE CDROMs in your system have been detected...that will make sure that they turn up in the BIOS.

If it makes you feel any better, also make sure that you have the latest BIOS.

The cdrom shows up in the bios. I have the latest Bios (1006). I have tried every conceivable order starting with floppy/cdrom/hard drive and ending with everything disabled except cdrom.

Remember that the drive has to conform to the ATAPI standard b4 it will work. I've got a p3b-f that works fine on booting with a cd (pioneer dvd drive and acer cd-rw).

Depending on how old these drives are, they may not be ATAPI devices. I'm not really sure what ATAPI stands for or how to find out if they are. In my case, it is listed as one of the properties when it is detecting devices.
