Not sure if it was asked, but do you have different accounts.. as in her being a standard XP user and not an admin?
LordJezo, yes, we are on different accts. I'm the admin, she's a lil' user.
aren't you the one with the Rebel kid? :D
ndee, not quite a rebel. She's too timid for that. BTW, her first semester in high school has been a revelation. Grades are up and she was elected freshman class VP.
your daughter is going to hate you
Spooner, she's 14. I know what you're thinking.......stay the hell away. She'll hate me? Part of being a parent of a teen. Ain't no thing.

java applets can't talk to different servers than the one they came from.
add aimexpress.oscar.aol.com
thats where the applet comes from, so that is the only server it can talk to.

Screw the hosts file, all you need is a nice little static route :)

Throw this in the startup program group: route add 64.0.0.0 mask 255.0.0.0 youriphere

If her grades are up, why do you care what she does? Honestly, I only became a good student once my parents let me do what I wanted. After not doing homework for a month, I realized it was stupid and began to do all my work on my own. I just don't think forcing her to do her homework is going to help. If she wants to procrastinate, she can just stare at the wall.

127.0.0.1 aimexpress.oscar.aol.com

That's the server that AIM Express uses.

ZV

EDIT: Never mind, I got beaten to it.

1) Tell your daughter she can't use AIM until her homework is finished, or set a limited amount of time until her homework is finished.

2) If she breaks this rule, punish her.

Problem solved. :)

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all the virgins who offered their parenting advice and tidbits.

LoL, So funny.

The problem is though, she will procrastinate. The choice is obviously yours, but I'm sure that she will procrastinate another way. I do all the time, hell I always procrastinate. They told you how to block it, now the only thing is actually making her use the computer for schoolwork instead of other things. Better block yahoo, msn and icq.

I wasn't giving you parenting advice. I'm merely speaking as a teenager who procrastinated like hell until i got my act together. I thought you might find it useful...
