Hey, I was doin 65 in a 55.... But they cop put a W for my race. I assume that refers to white, which I'm not. Can I contest it, on this technicality? Thanks.

Well all that will do is get your ticket changed and your court date set back. When i get tickets i just tell the judge that i understand what i did and that i am completely guilty and that i would appreciate it if he would drop the ticket if i agree to do X amount of comunity service hours. So far it has worked every time.

Pay the damn fine and stop trying to contribute to the erosion of personal responsibility in this country.

You sure you weren't reading it upside down and the "W" was actually an "M" for "Moron"?

Too late.

See if there is traffic school
other than that don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

you can contest it, the judge will get pissed off for the waste of time, and he will give you the maximum fine.

It's called the copper already overallocated his racial quota so he had to lie about your race. Hire a lawyer and file a civil lawsuit.

the "W" is for "Winner", he meant to imply you were going fast enough to win the race.

I'm sorry: you have to be a moron to think driving 65 in a 55 is a crime and those that speed are leading to the moral disintegration of society.

It's not about responsibility. A cop should never pull somebody over for a 65 in a 55 unless there's 12" of snow on the road. A cop cannot do that because he's forced to pick and choose who he pulls over since doing 10 over is entire ubiquitous. I drive on a limited-access highway to get to work everyday and not a single damn soul - aside from the occasional car with a mattress on the roof - is doing 55 or less. 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, hell, you'll see people doing 90 here and there. Speed limits are extremely dysfunctional and we need to set them so that 97% of the people aren't going over them by default.

So your argument is that because everyone is speeding we should raise the speed limit.

How fast would everyone drive is we raised it to 80? 90?

Whether or not speed limits are practical, they are what they are. They're a law, and the law was broken, by his own admission. So, trying to avoid the fine based on a technicality is irresponsible and dumb. Hell, a cop put white on a ticket I got once and I paid it. I made jokes about fighting it cause I'm obviously not, but that was AFTER I sent the check in for the fine.

Cars are safer now, highways are in better shape, and people have more experience driving than they did decades ago when the limits were set. The only reason they haven't changed them is because government has started to rely on the ticket revenues. Anyone who just pays these fines without contesting is letting their own government exploit them, and don't you get enough of that on Apr. 15?

Indeed. Why don't we look at the autobahns in Germany? Average traffic speed is in the double digits even though it is legal to go 125 or 150mph. There's a natural limit people are willing to drive. In the US, the safety nazis, neo-Puritans and special-interest lobbies have strangled the American driver with hysterical limits that nobody could hope to obey. Since nobody knows what is the real speed limit is (please don't say the real limit is what's posted because then 90+% of us would be daily scofflaws), everybody takes a stab and you have people driving all different speeds: the cop-afraid person doing 58 in the right lane and the Vette driver coasting at 90 in the left. When you have unreasonable laws, you invite chaos.

If going over 55 is so deadly, then we'd have massive daily carnage on our highways based on average actual vehicular speeds exceeding the limit by 10-15mph. But we don't because people realize that 55 is idealistic and not pragmatic or necessary.
