Aren't most wind chimes a set of tubes and then a disk in the middle?

Get some rubber hose. Cut it lengthwise. Wrap it around the edge of the disc part.

If the neighbors can't take the hint, the next step is to murder them with an axe.

Get a large gong and place it as near as possible to the nieghbor. When you feel annoyed by the wind chimes, bang the gong, especially late at night.

Yes, why dont i just trespass on my neighbors property and destroy some of their stuff. Some of you guys are brilliant.

I Wrote a polite note asking if they could take it down and stuck it to their front door. I said greetings from your neighbors, and cheers and all that. I hope they are cool and not trolls.

Leaving a random note is weak, REALLY weak. No matter how nice you made the note out to sound, they now think you're a dick.

Ask them to take it down. If they refuse, buy some earplugs and a dozen wind chimes and put them up on the side of your house so they can feel what you feel. Just make sure to put the plugs in while you sleep.

Had a stupid Roommate once that listened to her music super loud and had a problem when you asked her to turn it down, especially finals week. She thought I was being "ridiculous". So, when I was cleaning and such, I started turning MY music up. Instead of using headphones and my phone, I'd fire up Spotify on my computer's speakers.....and she had the nerve to complain. Wat?

Hmm. I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that you chose to live a mere 8 feet from your neighbors. Deal with it.

Doesn't that work both ways? They also choose their house knowing its proximity to other houses. Certainly they have an obligation to take said proximity into consideration when hanging pointless annoying noise makers on their property.

That being said, nothing wrong with asking them nicely. If they do take the chimes down, you might consider getting them a small "thank you" gift such as a hanging plant to replace the chimes. Most people would say that isn't necessary but it would go along way in keeping up "neighborly" relations with them.

If they're the tube type, you can just stuff some paper or something in the tubes. No noise. No damage. They'll likely not even notice.

If someone nicely asked me to take mine down I would. I grew up with wind chimes and the wife and I love them. I have three currently. I once had a neighbor destroy mine though. So I went and bought about 20 cheap ones and hung them up. They got the point. I moved from that place years ago and it was the only issue I have had in my 36 years.

They are almost never home, so I would lose that war.

Infact they werent home at all this weekend. I left a kind note, if that doesnt work then ill walk over there and ask.

I just dont understand the point of hanging something that makes clangy bell noise noise whenever the wind pipes up. Its one of those tubular bell wind chimes.

Instant poll, which is more annoying

A) Wind chimes (what is the point of these apart from annoying everyone?)
B) Barking/Howling dog
C) Listening to 3 hours of cat sex every second night

Turns out the lady is a totally normal person and she took it down.

Cheers for normal people.

You mean that talking to somebody about a problem lead to a resolution?! What a revolution this will be to the people of the internet.

I know this thread is old, I just ran across it while looking for wind chimes. People have windchimes to hear INSIDE their house, usually near a window. My elderly mum loves them and they are in the back yard strategically placed to catch the wind but also she can hear them through her bedroom window.

I have dealt with many neighbor problems, bright back lights - and living next door in a close neighborhood to people who got a beagle. Yes, I spoke to them and no they weren't happy - but we get along okay now. I got EAR PLUGS. You have to compromise when you live in a close residential area.

The idea of going onto someone's property and destroying it or even trespassing - as some people have suggested - maybe as a joke but maybe not - is very disturbing. If anyone so much as steps on my property, they have to deal with me, and that won't be pretty.

When you consider that some neighbors poison dogs who bark too much, steal from unlocked cars, or cook up meth in their garage...I've got one thing to say...be happy you have neighbors with wind chimes and get over it. What you do to others will come back to you.

My neighbors have a tubular wind chime that hangs about 8 feet from my front door/front window. And so I spend about half of my waking hours listening to it make noise. Its not super loud, but I have to admit, it is really starting to annoy the crap out of me. Especially if it is breezy at night. Its in their backyard and they are never even out here.

Would it be "uncool" for me to walk over there tommorow afternoon and very politely ask them if they could remove the wind chime? Or maybe leave a note on their door?

I dont have any relationship with these people, and have never had any issues with them. What do you guys think?

yes you would be within your right to ask them to remove it.

I can't see why politely asking them to remove or move it would be a problem. Seems reasonable.

I had a roommate who'd play loud music and shitty guitar. I just cut the circuit breaker to his room one day and all that stopped.

I think I'd take meth lab over wind chimes.
