Can host see what I'm doing?!?

I live in an apartment right now and am running off of the lan that they provide free of charge. I was wondering though, is there any way that the manager can see what I'm doing? I ask this because I make most of my purchases and such via the internet and I don't want people staring at my credit card number. I also don't like having the feeling that someone is watching everything that I am doing on my computer :|. Please let me know. Thanks.

Btw, I remember in highschool where the librarian could see if students were playing games so that's why I was wondering.

Wow. I've purchased a few things with different cards... Don't I have to install a program onto my computer in order for them to see what I'm doing though?

They don't care about your porn collection...and as joshsquall mentioned, with a simple program like Ethereal they can see every bit that travels on the network.

Your CC info is completely safe as long as the site you're on is using SSL encryption. Pretty much everything else you do is wide open.

Ooo, so if the site has SSL protection then I'm good to enter whatever?

Yep. However, there is a way to bypass it and get your info anyway. It involves creating a bogus certificate and getting the user to accept it. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do so I highly doubt anyone else on the LAN will bother.

The apt. complex network is probably so poorly managed that nobody knows or cares what you are doing. It would probably be a good idea to run a software firewall though b/c you never know who else is on the same network.
