Can having more RAM can increase the longevity of a hard drive?

The logic behind this was presented to me like this:

More RAM leads to less paging and subsequenytly less thrashing of the HDD. Hence less wear and tear.

Makes sense logically, but I doubt the reduced disk access would have a measurable benefit on the drives lifespan.

Opinions?

First you need an OS that actually uses physical memory BEFORE using the pagefile. Windows is not the best at utilizing the memory that's available.

If you knew how VM works you would understand that Widnows already does that.

Windows is not the best at utilizing the memory that's available.

So you think you can do a better job than MS VM developers? I know there are some tweaks I would like to see, but they probably wouldn't work for everyone else. VM is a very difficult balancing act, there's no perfect solution for everyone.
