Can girls skip their period by taking the pill?

I belive that when you purchase birth control pills, the pills during your period are actually placebos, which allow the woman to have her period. If a girl keeps taking the regular non-placebo pills, does she skip her period? Can she keeping doing that forever, or are there consequences for doing it too long?
Just wondering(I'm a guy by the way). 😱

yeah, it's true...if you skip the placebos and keep taking the real pills, you can avoid having your period for as long as you want to. according to cosmo, this is safe to do for months at a time, although i don't think i would try it.

basically you are retaining all the nutrients that you normally would release via your period, so it is not really harmful to your body.

I've heard it's not recommended to do for more than 3 months at a time.

I'd think that if it was pefectly safe, they'd have no placebos, so that women could always skip thier period.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

My wife is an obstetrics & gynecology resident. All of the female residents in her program are doing it. You can apparently do this for an extended period. She said the main problem is that spotting can happen if your gf/wives miss a few pills, which means they have to have their period and start afresh.

If you do it for an extended period then spotting can occur, sometimes heavy spotting in my GF's case. And when you get back in cycle the flow and length of the period can be abnormal, at least in the experience of my GF.

Hmmm... girlfriend just started on the pill about 3 months ago. One time, she got her period while still being on the active pills... how could this happen? Was it just irregular because she just started?

I would like to remind you that these are hormones. This is not something you want to experiment with. She should consult a MD. The rest of the pills are sugar and vitamins. The point of the rest are to keep the daily ritual of taking a pill. The DepoProvera shot may be another alternative. Different types of combinations are used to regulate some womens bleeding. Very athletic women reach this state anyway. NONE are without side effects!!
